Big turnout expected for 30th annual "Salute to Veterans" airshow
COLUMBIA- Organizers are expecting a large turnout for the 30th annual "Salute to Veterans" airshow on Memorial Day weekend.
The airshow will run from 9 AM until 4 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
"We seek to accomplish honoring our veterans," event spokesperson Jessica Houston said. "Especially with it being our thirtieth, we're hoping to bring those people in."
The event will be at Columbia Regional Airport. With regular flight schedules still happening, staff is hoping to open up some parking with outside transportation. Shuttles will run from both the Trowbridge Livestock Center on the MU campus and the Jefferson City airport.
Rain on Friday had event staff worried about the potential for weather this weekend.
"We can get the weather done today hopefully, so it can be all sunshine and rainbows," Houston said.
The work that goes into planning the show is a big reason Houston hopes the events can move forward on schedule tomorrow.
"It's a very long process with thousands of volunteers doing many different tasks," Houston said. "We're already working on next year's show."
