BOONE COUNTY - The Boone County Sheriff's Department said Monday people should be wary of someone spoofing the department's main number in an attempt to scam.
According to the release, the caller claims to be an investigator with the BCSD and possess a summons for charges against the person they’ve called.
The scammer proceeds to ask for bank account and routing number information to take care of the summons.
The BCSD says they will never call people asking for bank or credit card information.
