JACKSON COUNTY - From July 10 to July 13, both directions of I-70 on the east side of Kansas City's downtown loop will be closed, according to a news release from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The closure will aim to fix pavement issues along I-70 near downtown Kansas City. It is part of a larger pavement rehabilitation project along both directions of I-70 from State Line to the Manchester Trafficway. Approximately all lanes and ramps between Admiral Blvd and Paseo Blvd will be closed.

In the news release, MoDOT said the closure will also impact drivers currently using a detour for Kansas' Lewis and Clark Bridge replacement project. MoDOT included the following detours as a possibility for travelers:

  • "Motorists traveling this direction on I-35 south should use the northern portion of the downtown loop"
  • "Travelers headed north on U.S. 71 should follow westbound I-670"
  • "Westbound I-70 travelers will also follow westbound I-670"

MoDOT said the full pavement rehabilitation project is scheduled to be completed by mid-October in 2020.
