Governor Mike Parson announces re-opening phase one extension through June 15
JEFFERSON CITY – During his daily COVID-19 briefing Thursday, Governor Mike Parson announced an extension of the phase one reopening plan for Missouri.
Phase one will remain in place through June 15.
“We are extending phase one - not because Missouri has taken a step back, but because we want to make sure we are fully prepared for phase two,” Parson said.
Parson said the state is still making progress.
“For sentinel testing, 6,466 tests were planned from the 20th to the 27th, 8,127 tests were actually done,” Parson said.
He said some communities in the state are farther ahead than others.
“Extending the order will give these communities more time to prepare and align with us at the state level,” Parson said.
He said events like graduations, weddings, county fairs, etc. may still take place with proper social distancing. He said it is up to local health officials to enforce that rule.
He was not clear on what phase two will look like.
