Jefferson City woman warns people to keep cars locked
JEFFERSON CITY – A Jefferson City woman is encouraging people to lock their car doors after she caught a thief trying to steal from her husband’s car Friday morning.
Vickie Bax said she and her husband, Ron, were getting ready to go to work when her husband discovered his car had been ransacked.
“We went out, we looked and we immediately knew what had happened,” Vickie Bax said. “We immediately called JCPD. They came right out.”
According to police, there had been another similar incident in the area that had happened within 24 hours of the incident Friday. However, police said they cannot determine if the incidents were related.
Bax said she and her husband went through the car, but they did not notice anything missing.
“According the police officer, they were interested in getting electronics and we didn’t have any in our car,” she said.
But that did not stop Bax from posting the incident to Facebook.
Their home has exterior cameras, which caught footage of the man entering her husband’s car. They bought the cameras after a thief stole their packages around December 2016. She said she posted the footage to Facebook in hopes someone would see the thief or report a similar incident.
The man made no attempt to steal anything from her car.
“My car is here all the time, and my car is always locked,” she said. “That tells me that he’s probably been on that carport before.”
Bax said she highly recommends anyone with a car to keep it locked at all times. She also said she was thankful she and her husband had decided to get the cameras installed.
