Moniteau County man sentenced for 2016 manslaughter
LEBANON - A Moniteau County man has been sentenced for the 2016 death of a Tipton student.
Travis Clark, 24 of California, was sentenced to seven years in prison for involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action.
In February, a Laclede County jury found Clark guilty of the May 2016 shooting death of 18-year-old Robert Ashbaugh.
Ashbaugh was known in the community as a stand-out track and field athlete for Calvary Lutheran High School in Jefferson City.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol's preliminary report described Ashbaugh as being shot by an acquaintance during horseplay involving a firearm.
Prior to his arrest, Clark told KOMU he and Ashbaugh were good friends.
"We had a very good close friendship and did a lot of stuff together. We always hung out when we got the chance and when I needed him he was there for me," Clark said.
Ashbaugh's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Clark and Robert Davis Jr. in May. A court date for the suit has not yet been set.
