MONITEAU COUNTY - An Eldon man is facing a slew of charges after a chase that started in Clarksburg and ended up more than 20 miles away in Jamestown, with a banged-up patrol car, a smashed out window, a TASER and pepper spray

A press release from the Moniteau County Sheriff's Office reads like a high-octane movie script. It says Preston James Cash, 20, fled police twice in two days, once on foot and once by car.

It started Friday when deputies from Moniteau County went to Cooper County to assist in a stolen vehicle investigation. They spotted a truck matching the description and attempted to stop it. The statement said Cash drove the truck into the woods nearby and then ran, prompting an extensive search.

Cooper County sheriff's deputies, Tipton Police officers and troopers from the Missouri Highway Patrol joined in to form a perimeter. Then MSPH air patrol flew over to join the search. Those efforts were later called off because of poor visibility.

Things got started again early Saturday, when a woman called the Cooper County Sheriff's office to say a man was banging on her door. She described someone who matched Cash's description. Before deputies could get there, the statement said, Cash stole a vehicle. It was later spotted by deputies and a second chase began.

The Moniteau County Sherrif's Office said Cash drove through several yards and fences before stopping. When a deputy got out and approached Cash, the statement said, Cash rammed the vehicle into the deputy's car and speed away, starting another chase.

The deputy said Cash later turned into a farm and drove into a field before coming to a stop. The deputy got out of his car, and broke the stolen vehicle's driver's side window. He said Cash was reaching for something in the backseat, so he used his taser and pepper spray, then pulled chase out of the vehicle. Deputies later found a gun there, the statement said.

Cash faces charges including assault on a police officer, possession of a stolen vehicle, property damage and failure to yield. He is being questioned about other thefts in multiple counties.
