UPDATE: MUPD arrests student following bomb scare
COLUMBIA - UPDATE: MU police arrested a student Wednesday following the bomb scare near the Hearnes Center.
Police got a call around 3:20 p.m. from someone worried about comments another person made to her on a bus about it exploding. Officers evacuated the bus at the stop south of the Hearnes Center, and MU Alert sent notifications to students and employees asking them to avoid the area.
A K-9 unit searched the area and didn't find any explosives or dangerous materials.
Police said after the first MU Alert message went out, a student called and said the incident may have been related to comments he made, and it was all a misunderstanding. Officers arrested the student, Dante' Hopkins, for peace disturbance, a misdemeanor. He was later released on a summons.
COLUMBIA - Authorities have given the all clear after investigating a possible explosive device around the Hearnes Center shuttle bus stop.
MU Alert previously sent out notifications, saying there was a bomb threat near the bus stop, and authorities evacuated the area.
