UPDATE: Documents say suspect called police minutes after deadly shooting
COLE COUNTY — Court documents say the suspect in Friday's deadly Cole County shooting called police about the shooting just minutes after dispatchers got the call.
According to the probable cause statement, a woman called 911 early Friday morning saying someone named Austin shot her and her boyfriend Clifton Withers.
Documents say just minutes after the call, dispatchers got another call from someone identifying themselves as Austin Corrigan, saying he heard Clifton Withers and "Carol" were shot.
When dispatchers asked why he thought that, he said "it was just what he heard." He also said he believed the two were meth dealers.
Jefferson City police arrested Corrigan later that morning after he crashed his car during a pursuit.
A 21-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
Withers was pronounced dead on the scene. The woman with him has not yet been publicly identified. She was treated at University Hospital and released.
