AUDRAIN COUNTY - A 64-year-old woman died in a house fire Saturday morning, according to the Little Dixie Fire Protection District.

Fire Chief Kenneth Hoover said firefighters found Paula Sites inside as they were putting out the fire.

Paula Womack was worried about her neighbor when she saw Sites' home on fire.

"You just hope she wasn't in there," Womack said. "I just can't imagine what she went through."

Firefighters responded to the 13000 block of Audrain County Road 208 around 2:30 a.m.

Fire Chief Hoover said when firefighters arrived, they found the home to be fully enflamed.

It took firefighters 45 minutes to an hour to put the fire out.

The Boone County Fire Protection District provided assistance, Hoover said.

Paula's husband, Eugene Womack, said he'll remember Sites as somebody who always wanted to help others.

"She was a real nice person," said Eugene.  "She helped out the neighborhood, if you had any problems she was there to help out."

Both Eugene and Paula both talked about Sites' love for animals.
